Tampa Catholic is proud to celebrate Maddi Schmidt Rosen ’10, who was inducted into the TC Athletic Hall of Fame last month for her outstanding contributions to Track and Field. Maddi’s story is one of resilience, determination, and a deep love for her Tampa Catholic family.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Maddi moved to Tampa in 2001 and became part of the Tampa Catholic community in 2006 after attending Incarnation Catholic School. A natural athlete, Maddi excelled in multiple sports during her time at TC, playing volleyball for three years, swimming for one, and making a lasting impact on the track and field team over four years. Despite facing an injury her freshman year, Maddi’s athletic talent and perseverance shined brightly throughout her Crusader career.
On the track, Maddi accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments. She was a three-time MVP and remains the current school record holder in the 100-meter hurdles. Maddi earned three district championship titles, claimed a regional championship in the triple jump, and was a two-time state qualifier. Off the field, Maddi embraced the full Crusader experience, balancing her athletic pursuits with academic excellence. She was a member of the National Honor Society, SHAPE, and Mu Alpha Theta, and cherishes memories of the camaraderie among her teammates and the inspiring mentorship of teachers like Ms. Linda Flowers.
After graduating in 2010, Maddi’s athletic journey continued at the University of Dayton, where she earned a track and field scholarship. There, she broke records as the indoor triple jump record holder, excelled in hurdles and jumping events, and achieved top finishes in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. Her contributions helped her team secure an Indoor Atlantic 10 title and several runner-up finishes. Maddi also earned recognition as a two-time scholar-athlete, reflecting her dedication to both her sport and her studies. She graduated in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science.
Maddi’s connection to Tampa Catholic has only deepened since her time as a student. In 2018, she returned to TC as a coach, guiding the next generation of track and field athletes in jumps and hurdles. Maddi balances her coaching role with life as a swim instructor and stay-at-home mom to her son, JJ. Her legacy at Tampa Catholic is a family affair, with siblings Stephanie Schmidt West ’03 and Jacob Schmidt ’06 also part of the Crusader family.
As Maddi reflects on her journey, she credits Tampa Catholic for shaping her into the person she is today. From cheering at Crusader football games to forging lifelong friendships and achieving athletic greatness, Maddi’s time at TC was filled with moments of faith, family, and excellence.
Congratulations to Maddi on her well-deserved induction into the Tampa Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame! Your story inspires the entire Crusader community, and we are honored to call you one of our own.
